Teens at Risk: Dangerous Caffeine Pouches Gaining Popularity

Health 11 days ago

Health experts are raising alarms over a new trend among teenagers: highly caffeinated pouches that deliver dangerous doses of stimulants. These small, flavored pouches, often promoted on TikTok, contain up to 225mg of caffeine—far exceeding safe limits for teens. Inserted between the gum and cheek, the caffeine bypasses digestion, entering the bloodstream rapidly and increasing risks of overdose, heart issues, and neurological problems.

Despite manufacturers claiming to market only to adults, influencers frequently target teens, promising energy boosts and focus. Emergency room visits for caffeine overdoses among kids aged 11-14 have doubled since 2017. Brands like Wip defend their marketing strategies, but critics argue the lack of age restrictions makes these products dangerously accessible.

Doctors warn that excessive caffeine can harm developing brains, leading to impulse control issues and panic attacks. With no regulations preventing sales to minors, the trend continues to grow, fueled by social media promotions and easy access at gas stations or online shops. Parents and health professionals urge stricter oversight to protect young users.
