Rare Ibuprofen Reaction Leaves Woman in 21-Day Coma

Health 9 days ago

Aleshia Rogers, a 27-year-old mother from Nebraska, experienced a horrifying reaction to ibuprofen after taking it for post-C-section pain. What began as flu-like symptoms quickly escalated into a full-body rash, blistering, and skin shedding. Doctors diagnosed her with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare but deadly immune response triggered by the medication.

Her condition worsened rapidly, leading to sepsis and multiple organ failure. Medically induced for three weeks, Aleshia lost 95% of her skin and faced a 10% survival chance. Her family was told to prepare for the worst as her body struggled to recover from the extreme reaction.

Five years later, Aleshia still battles long-term effects but shares her story to raise awareness. ’I don’t want people to fear medicines, but they should know the risks,’ she says. Stevens-Johnson syndrome, though rare, can strike without warning, turning a common painkiller into a life-threatening trigger.
