Fortnite’s Alien Bug Season Sparks Helldivers Comparisons

Gaming 9 days ago

Fortnite’s latest season has players battling insectoid aliens dubbed ’Bugs,’ a concept strikingly similar to Helldivers 2. Arrowhead Studios, the developers of Helldivers, joked about the resemblance, calling it a case of ’we have Helldivers at home.’ Community manager Katherine Baskin noted the differences between the games, saying there’s room for both in the gaming world. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani even quipped that the new Fortnite season ’feels very democratic,’ a nod to Helldivers’ lore.

The new Fortnite season isn’t just about Bugs—it also includes wild crossovers like fighting alongside a humanoid panda, Power Rangers, and Halo’s Spartan soldiers. Epic Games revealed players have already defeated over 250 million Bugs since the season launched. Leaks suggest upcoming additions like pet-like Companions, including a turtle on a skateboard, further expanding the game’s chaotic charm.

Fortnite has a history of borrowing from pop culture, and this season is no exception. While the similarities to Helldivers are undeniable, Arrowhead’s lighthearted response highlights the friendly rivalry between developers. With its mix of aliens, iconic characters, and quirky additions, Fortnite continues to dominate the battle royale scene.
