Chelsea Close to Signing Xavi Simons Amid Man City Interest

Sports 8 days ago

Chelsea appear close to securing the signing of 22-year-old Xavi Simons, who left PSG earlier this year. The Dutch midfielder is highly sought after, with Manchester City also showing interest. However, recent reports suggest Chelsea are leading the race, with Simons focused on finalizing the move. PSG included a sell-on clause in his transfer to RB Leipzig, ensuring they profit from any future deal.

The transfer fee for Simons is reported to be €80 million, with €55 million paid upfront. His contract runs until 2027, and PSG’s clause has already proven lucrative, as seen with Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool. Simons’ salary at Leipzig could reach €14 million gross with bonuses, making him a valuable asset for any club.

While Manchester City initially pursued Simons, they have reportedly stepped back, allowing Chelsea to take the lead. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri noted that City’s interest may have waned after targeting other players. Chelsea remain patient, confident in securing Simons’ signature soon.
