Zelensky and Trump to Discuss Ukraine War Ceasefire in Washington Meeting

Politics 5 days ago

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House to negotiate an end to the Ukraine-Russia war. This follows Trump’s three-hour Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which ended without a ceasefire deal. Zelensky expressed openness to a trilateral discussion involving Russia, emphasizing direct leader-level talks as crucial for resolving key issues.

The Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin was marked by public displays of camaraderie, including smiles and thumbs-up gestures, though no concrete agreements were reached. Putin acknowledged the talks as ’constructive’ but stressed Russia’s concerns must be addressed. Trump described the discussions as ’productive’ and hinted at future negotiations with Zelensky and NATO leaders.

The upcoming Washington meeting signals a renewed diplomatic push, with Zelensky thanking Trump for the invitation. Meanwhile, European leaders, including Germany’s Friedrich Merz and France’s Emmanuel Macron, participated in an hour-long call with Trump, underscoring global stakes in ending the conflict that began in 2022.
