Trump Hosts Ukraine Summit, Pushes for Swift Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a delegation of seven European leaders met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. The discussions focused on plans to end the ongoing war. Despite clear divergences, the visitors carefully avoided angering their host. Zelensky notably expressed thanks to Trump eleven times in just four minutes during public remarks, preceding each statement with gratitude.
The specifics of the proposed security guarantees for Ukraine remain undefined, whether involving peacekeepers, military aid, or intelligence support. European leaders are pressing for a ceasefire prior to any peace negotiations. However, Trump, convinced by Vladimir Putin, appears in a great hurry to end the war and is pushing to quickly sign an armistice, even if it means skipping stages and despite recent Russian attacks.
Trump immediately took to the phone following the meeting to arrange a potential encounter between Zelensky and Putin, aiming to secure his place in history as a peacemaker. While Zelensky called it the best meeting yet due to the lack of open fights, a long road remains to bridge irreconcilable differences and achieve any peace, even a forced one as advocated by the American president.
